Role Description
The Mechanical Design Engineer Intern will work closely with the founders to design, prototype and refine the mechanical components of Tara - our AI-powered cooking companion. You’ll help take Tara from early concepts to functional Alpha and Beta prototypes.
This is a hands-on role centered around CAD modeling, rapid prototyping, 3D printing, iterative testing and translating ideas into high-quality mechanical systems. If you love building, experimenting and improving designs through fast feedback loops, you’ll thrive here.
What You’ll Do
Design & CAD Work
- Create 3D models, assemblies and mechanism layouts for housings, mounts and internal structures
- Translate rough concepts and sketches into manufacturable, testable designs
- Improve mechanical architecture for stability, usability and ease of assembly
Prototype & 3D Print
- Prepare STL files, slice models and run prints regularly
- Optimise print parameters for accuracy, strength and speed
- Post-process, assemble and validate printed components
Testing & Iteration
- Fit-test components with electronics, sensors and wiring
- Identify tolerance issues, interference, deformation, or failure points
- Support environmental and reliability testing (heat, vibration, load, handling)
- Iterate rapidly based on real-world testing and feedback
